Hometown Cha Cha Cha - Series Review

I wrote this ages ago, forgot about it, and then immediately had feelings again when I reread it… so obviously, we’re posting.

No spoiler review—because some twists deserve your full, unprepared shock.

After a very, very long time, I finally found my go-to drama of 2021. Hometown Cha Cha Cha, starring Kim Seon-Ho and Shin Min-Ah, has everything I love in a Korean drama. Lovely characters, cute chemistry between the leads, and a plot that has me hooked for the entirety of the drama. The town's talent show and Du Sik gobbling down a hot dumpling so his “rival” doesn't get any from Hye Jin is peak jealous kdrama hero moment.

I feel that K-Dramas get it right in how they handle relationships, not just between the leads, but with everyone else as well. HTCCC follows Yoon Hye Jin, an aloof and hardworking dentist who quits her job and opens a dental clinic in a small seaside village, Gongjin. Here, she meets Hong Du Sik, more commonly known as Chief Hong (Hong Ba Jang), and a whole host of villagers who have their own troubles.

At first, Hye-jin finds it difficult to adjust, her aloof personality clashing with the warmth (and nosiness) of Gongjin. But slowly, through small missteps and quiet moments, she begins to find her place—eventually discovering a sense of belonging that feels like family.

Her romance with Du Shik was so sweet. This is a slow burn done right. Their cute banter, mainly caused by their opposite personalities, their friendship, and the chemistry - all this made them one of my favorite K-drama couples.

Kudos to the writer for a simple yet compelling story that made me anxiously wait for every new episode. When I first heard about the show, I was apprehensive about watching it cause it sounded a lot like a Hallmark movie - a city girl moves to a small town and falls in love. My main concern - How will they maintain this plot for 16 episodes? But every moment was entertaining. With each episode, I was invested in every character in Gongjin. I loved how every episode focused on one person and their troubles. Somehow, the loudest person in town, had the most traumatic backstory. That's solid storytelling right there.  And the takeaway? Don’t judge someone before you know what they’ve been through.

If you are looking for a cozy drama set in a seaside, picturesque village with lovable characters, a homely feeling, and strong storytelling, you should watch Home Town Cha Cha Cha.

Random note: This series is based on the film Mr. Handy, Mr. Hong. While the movie had its own charm, the drama really takes its time—giving each character more depth, more backstory, and honestly, way more emotional impact.

Gu Family Book - Season 2 Questions Answered

The Finale of the hit KDrama, The Gu Family Book or Kang Chi, The Beginning left lot of things unanswered. I for one was fuming and you can see my review of the Gu Family book Here.   Incase you want to know the short version of my rant, its that I have never felt this unsatisfied and betrayed by any drama till date.  Anyhow, though I was not able to find the source, I did read in one of the forums of how the writer had started out the series with a Season 2 in mind. However, this aint happening! :( This might be why the story felt more like the beginning rather than a whole package. But this is my speculation.  But what is not speculation is that the Production house have decided not to have a season 2 for the Gu Family Book... yet. Things might change and I hope to God that they do. But until then, I am left with FanVids of Gu Family Book 2.

Gu Family Book - The end or just the beginning?

Now that the drama, “Gu Family Book” or “Kang Chi, The beginning” has ended, I have loads of things to say about the drama, not all of them good. So lets start off. Be warned Spoilers Ahead.  First of all, the ending was One Shocker. I am not really the crying sort but this drama, especially Lee Seung gi made me feel like this while watching the finale... Once the drama ended, I was like this. Not sure cause now I have to find a new purpose on Mondays and Tuesday or if the finale brought this on. I had wondered why the drama has such diverse names : "Gu Family book" and "Kang Chi, the beginning". Where they thinking of a season 2? I am not sure. But what I am sure of is that the Gu Family Book plot which seemed to be the focal point in the first couple episodes was brought up very rarely as episodes went on, usually when people didn't have anything to say. Ok, I am exaggerating. Moving on. There also seemed to be story-lines that seemed...

Healer - Kim Moon Shik's Evolution to the Dark Side.

The problem with watching a drama like Healer is that it spoils you for all other dramas. You start having expectations so high that from there on only a handful of dramas are able to fulfll them. I started watching Healer seeing its similarity to City Hunter but expect for a few details, Healer is more satisfying a drama and much better scripted keeping the suspense and the fun till the end. All characters are well written, but the most interesting of them is Kim Moon Shik (KMS). When starting out this drama, I was certain that KMS was the villain. The PD did the awesome job of maintaining the mystery of the 1992 incident up until episode 18 which was primarily the reason it took me this long to actually figure out KMS's motive. We all know he did not start off as the bad guy but somewhere down the lane, lost his path.  Up until episode 17, we see flashes of the past that gives us hints of Moon Shik's love for his friend's girlfriend. We were lead to assume th...
